You may recall seeing the photo of Hammy with our esteemed visitor, Edgar. They had quite an exciting New Years together.

Edgar is visiting us, on holiday from our buddy Boris. Today we took him out for some adventures, NZ style!!

I LOVE Crispmouse!! I get gifts and noms and spend the day with the Rumbleparents!! This is Diego's first Crispmouse, and he's excited because he heard that the Rumble-in-laws are giving us a ham bag!

He assumes that means that he can get into the bag with the ham. I am much more realistic and know that the good noms are the turkey noms!

We were both really lucky this year - we got a gift from one of our secret santas - my sweet pal Boris sent us this wonderful BOX of goodies!!

The other day that Ham and I were out on the deck in our Kritter Kondo. Imagine my shock when a little bird FLEW OVER MY HEAD and into the apartment!!

Google has very kindly restored our blog, gmail and google+ accounts. I'm hoping they won't disable us again, but to ensure I don't lose any of my precious posts (especially the ones about sweet Inigo) I'm going to back up my blog, then move it to Wordpress.

Thank to everyone that's given your support, and I would suggest to all of you that you back up your blogs, just in case the worst happens to you as well.

I keep telling Rumblemum that the REAL moral of the story is that Ham BROKE the blog... she still seems to like him tho *pout*

Edit to add: the wonderful and bootiful ladies at Zoolantry have posted an excellent step-by-step way of backing up your blog. I can't stress enough how important this is, having learned the hard way.

A particular Maine Coon managed to dip his tail in some olive oil this morning! It was cold oil, sitting in a pan on the kitchen bench...

I think he took to heart all the times I've said "You're so squeaky, I think you need Maine Coon oil!"

He now has a very flat tail and the floors are like a skating rink!

Once upon a time... - Rumblepurr

Once upon a time, there was a Rumbledad.

This Rumbledad had never had a pussycat of his own. He was persuaded by the wise and wonderful Rumblemum that everything is better with a pussycat (and twice as good with two!) and so they decided to start the Rumblefamily.

Now having never had a pussycat before, Rumbledad had many goofy and irrational rules. One of these crazy rules was that there would be 'NO CATS ON THE COUNTERTOPS!!' Rumblemum heard this and laughed quietly to herself.

Time passed, and Rumbledad saw how cute pussycats were on the countertops. He decided to amend the rule to be 'Cats can ONLY be on the UPPER countertops, where there is no food preperation'. Rumblemum chuckled, but said nothing.

Then one day Rumblemum put a bag on the lower countertop. Imagine her surprise when Rumbledad SCOLDED her for putting a bag on the pussycat's spot! (which was actually the main food preparation area...)

The moral of this story? Cats will ALWAYS win (and the lesson is that nobody should listen to Rumbledad)

Our sweet friend Pip has had a devastating few days. Buddy, the feral cat that they were trying to socialise passed away. Then Sweet Pea, their 20 year-old boy passed away from carcinoma of the mouth that spread to his bones.

Pip has been such a good friend to us, particularly when we lost Inigo last year. His kind words and support really helped us in the darker days and we're so very sorry that he and his family have suffered these losses.

Please, if you wouldn't mind, stop by Pip's blog and spare him some kind words.

The two faces of the Ham

Hello friends.

I feel I must tell you something about that Hamlet.

In our apartment, there is ONE place I was able to go to in order to avoid the big Ham. There's a very high spot above the bed on Rumblemum's side.

The other night, while I was enjoying some Ham-free time, we discovered he could jump up and STEAL MY SPOT.

'Unacceptable!' I can hear you saying... 'how does he get away with it!'

It's because he has two faces. There is this one that I think illustrates the concentrated naughtiness:

The truth about 'little' Hamlet

Now, a number of you have commented on the fact that 'little' Hamlet has gotten SO much bigger.

The other day he sat on the scale. He is 4.8kgs.

That's 10.58lbs.

Now it's important to remember that Hamlet is only 7 months old.

I think the lesson to be learned here is I should be nicer to him while I'm still the 'big' brother.

Must alway keep an eye on him while he's small...

Thanks to everyone that was concerned about Rumbles. Rumbledad will take him to the vet today so they can do something about his acne - it's gotten quite bad.

I should say - Rumbles very obviously loves Diego. I actually think a big part of this is Rumbles wants to snuggle with Diego, but the little Hamlet isn't at the cuddle stage yet.

Rumbles tries to wash his head, which is something Inigo LOVED, but Diego thinks it's an invitation to wrestle.

Rumbles misses Inigo very much, as do we all.

It's MEEEE!! Diego!! You were wondering if Rumbles had hidden me in the closet yesterday, but he DIDN'T! I was on patrol!

Rumblemum and daddy are a little worried I'm bugging Rumbles too much. He seems anxious and he's broken out in a big patch of feline acne on his chin. They've got the Feliway diffuser going, and they try to give him away time from me. I can't help it, I just wanna PLAY with him all the time! He's my hero!

Buddy recently lost his human, and after ten years together he's on his own in Metro ATL, GA.

The local Spay~Neuter~Adopt~ people are trying to find him a new home so he doesn't have to go into a shelter,

I'm DIEGO MOONFUR! I've taken over the blog while Rumbles is snoozing!

Rumbles likes to pretend he doesn't love me, but I know he does. He lets me eat his food when I push him away from his bowl, and he ALWAYS watches me when I cuddle with the Mummy (hmmm... MOONmummy has a ring to it)

He loves our playtime. Today I was pretending to be a ninja and he held up one of his gigantic paws so I could try and pounce on it!

I'm HOME!!! Can you believe it??? How come I had to go to the vet and the little one got to stay home and cuddle MY Rumblemum and dad?

I'm feeling much better (outside of having some missing floofs on my tum) and I'm trying to get that Lance Corporal in line. I can't believe his nerve tho! He thinks he should eat food BEFORE I've sampled both bowls and picked the one I want! And while he MAY have a 'Minimew', he sure uses it a lot!

I want to thank you all for your kind wishes, the candles you've lit and support for Rumblemum while she was rumble-less. As a token of my gratitude, I'd like to mail out one small kitten to anyone that would like him (heh heh heh)

Note from Rumblemum: We will not be mailing out any kittens *looking pointedly at Rumbles* but I do want to say thanks.There was a bit of a snafu when we got Rumbles back (I'd talked to the vet in the morning and she was wanting to keep him an extra day, I missed out on a call later in the day saying he could come home. By the time we got there the vet was gone for the day and the vet nurse let us discharge him but we don't know what the exact results were. We're taking the Lance Corporal in for his micro chiping tonite so we'll hear more then)

Update with GREAT news!

We saw the vet, and the diagnosis is that his bowel was inflamed because he passed something 'traumatic' (that would have been the string) So this would be the best possible outcome, thank heavens!!

The Lance Corporal was very good at the vet, and got a lot of attention (his favorite thing besides Greenies! *lol*)

We're hopefully going to pick him up tonight. The vet wanted to monitor him for a few days, but he's doing well so fingers-crossed we get him back today!

Thank you all for your kind words and thoughts. We still don't really know what the problem is, but the vet doesn't seem too concerned thank goodness.

I can't believe this is happening again.

Several days ago we thought that Rumbles had chewed thru and swallowed the string from his Da Bird toy.

I rang the after hours vet, their advice was to keep an eye on him, if he was off his food or throwing up then bring him in. He was doing fine up till a few days ago, so we ran him to the vet.

The vet took xrays and ran a test to make sure his insides were ok - he looked like he was doing fine till last nite. In the early morning hours he started throwing up like we've never seen before.

We took him into the vet, who was sufficiently concerned to want to do exploratory surgery.

They're still not sure what's wrong - there is no sign of the string, but he's got inflammation and the vets want to monitor him over nite.

Please purr for my boy, he's in the same cage as Inigo, and it just felt so sadly familiar. The vet he's at is (in my opinion) the very best one in town, so he's in good hands. I just won't feel better till he's home with me.

Still no real name for kitten, but he's got a new nickname... Rumblemum is calling him 'DB' because he likes to go up on his back paws and dance around like a little bear! (DB = Dancing bear)

We've starting playing chasies. Rumblemum cracks up every time she sees the wee kitten chasing me down the hall (it's not THAT funny) She gives me treats cause she sees how gentle I am with him - we were bunny kicking each other and I was very careful not to hurt him.

The Lance Corporal has arrived, and is quite happy in his new room with MY toys... Rumblefolks are amazed at how easygoing he is. He PURRS when you touch him, and he loves to play!

Our first meeting however... (ladies please look away now) I may or may not have ran away. From a kitten. That is one tenth the size of me.

I'm now ignoring him. He's in his room, behind closed doors. Will update on progress.

I had to go to the VET today!!! All cause I needed my mighty claws trimmed before the baby comes! The INDIGNITIES!

The vet was super nice, and the vet nurse came out to admire me... but that doesn't mean I have to like it!

I got MORE mail today!! And even better than getting mail? I got more FOOD!!!

The sweet people at the Christchurch SPCA sent a card and a bag of food to say thanks for the fundraising -what a lovely thing to do! And the best part was a lovely handwritten card! Even Rumbledad was touched that they took so much time to handwrite a sweet card!

Well, we have a date! Rumblemum and dad will pick up Lance Corporal Minimew on 1 April!

Bit of sad news, his poor brother, Captian Tinycat, doesn't have a home of his own :( The family that was going to take him decided not to, they thought he would get to be 'too big'! Harumph! Thinking like that and I'd NEVER have gotten a home! Rumblemum is working to persuade Rumbledad that we need TWO little ragdolls to keep me company.

Anyhow, I showed you daddy Layfaette the other day, here's his mummy! She's a real cat model, she's been in adverts all over NZ for Mitsubishi Electric Heat Pumps, she's very bootiful!

On another note... me and the Lance Corporal are really lucky to have found a home with humans that love us so much. It's not so lucky for a lot of kitties and woofies out there.

So many are looking for safe, loving forever homes. Today is adopt the intranet day, and I've 'adopted' a kitty that I'd like to promote.

His name is Austin, and not only is he SUPER orange, he's listed as being 'extra large' (I can relate to that!)

Preparing for the 'what if'

There's been so many crazy things happening lately, and some have been really close to home. Rumblemum has been taking some steps to make sure we're prepared and she thought you guys might want to do the same (her philosophy is 'it's better to have it and never need it than need it and not have it)

(1) Pack a 'go bag'. A 'go bag' is packed with things that you can grab quickly and get out to safety with. Keep a set of clothes (if you have to run out at night, you won't be wearing day clothes) Make sure you've got a waterproof jacket and a blanket to keep you warm.

Some food (like power bars or granola bars) and water, a first-aid kit, a few packs of baby wipes, a radio, a flashlight, a lighter... but don't forget about us furry friends! Make sure you've accounted for food and water for us - Rumblemum has packed my light metal dish, crunchies, treats and three cans of soft food. Also take a blanket for us! Have an extra set of any medications we might be taking, and some Rescue Remedy to help calm.

In case of emergency, please pack RUMBLE

(2) Even tho I'm an indoor only cat, Rumblemum and dad have me microchiped. It'll make it easier to reunite with me if needed.

(3) Find a hotel or motel that will let you stay with pets. Quite often Red Cross shelters won't accept pets. You'd better do your hotel research now, after an emergency it's unlikely you'll have web access.

(4) Make sure your carrier is somewhere that you can get to it quickly. Leaving it out will also help with any fear that may be associated with bringing it out (I used to hide when the carrier came out, but now it's out all the time I don't notice it)

(5) Always have a recent photo of your pets with you - not just because we're cute and you want to show us off - if we're separated in an emergency you'll want to have photos to take to shelters to find us.

I hope that we'll all never have to use these tips... but it's good to have just in case.
